GojiraakaGODZILLA1954

- The rise of appreciation for bad brilliant cinema -

I watched the original Godzilla (1954) on the big screen last night. We have a really cool art house cinema in Liverpool called The FACT.  Last week I saw ‘Troll Hunter’ which was brilliant (go see it).

I think there has been a big rise in B movie appreciation over the past two years. With films such as ‘Parana 3D’ and ‘Mega shark Vs. Giant Octopus’ becoming a must see amongst friends. Perhaps it is because of the internet that independent films are becoming more loved, people now putting funny or interesting stories above the actual quality of the film.

Maybe it’s due to Tarrantino and Rodriguez’s Grindhouse style leaving a mark on cinema, ‘Planet Terror’  for instance is a multimillion dollar  production made to look like a cheap 80s exploration film. The monster genre is coming back and not in the realms of a slick Hollywood remake like the recent King Kong.

-My Thoughts -A few years I ago I didn’t understand why films cost so much money to make. Probably due to my lack of experience on budgeted film sets; currently at this moment I do understand why you need ‘some’ money to make a film but I still don’t see why you need a lot of it…

My Experiences with budgeting a film

My last short film was the first I put money towards- I spent £700 ($1,089) which I saved up from my University student loan.  For me this was an experiment to see if putting money towards a film would make it any better.

There were three main things I wanted to do differently from my previous short films

  • Create a higher quality looking film
  • Have a film crew
  • Work with professional actors

I’m currently busy writing my new film, so I thought id share with you the basics on how to write a film script. I’ve searched all over the web before and there doesn’t seem to be any simple articles on how to do this.

The 5 basic rules of writing a film script

# 1 Use font COURIER size 12

# 2 When you start a scene decided whether it is taking place in an inside or outside location.

If inside write INT (interior) if outside write EXT (exterior) on the top of each scene.

Welcome

Welcome,

my name is Amy Clarke and I am a film maker!

This is the first ever post of my website which I will update regularly giving

honest advice and insight into the world of film!

This year will be a busy one I’m starting my third and final year of

University. I plan to do a big film project for my final year, bigger and better

than my last short film ‘Killing of Eve ‘ (you can see more information on my

latest films on the My Films page).

Also I’m going to have to get more work rolling

in from the film industry itself – I work freelance as a continuity script supervisor,

I’ve work on 4 features before and many short films, I’ve been lucky enough to film

on both 35mm – RED camera film sets. Although it will be hard to juggle both film

work and university work since I could never say no to film work itself – if I ever

do that I fear the people asking will never hire me again. And I’ve just moved out of

my parents house too – I’m surviving on student loans but they wont last forever.

I have been addicted to making films since I was 15 years old -

everything I do every day is as a result of my film addiction, I study film,

I work film, I make films, even my boyfriends a film maker. I’m rubbish at everything

else in life; I couldn’t cook if my life depended on it, so Im just going to make

films and what a better way to write about it and share my knowledge than online.

My name is Amy and I love film. If you love film too please consider visiting my site again

it’s only going to get bigger and better.
